Typhoon Noru to threaten Japan and South Korea with flooding, damaging winds
... Noru has already been on a long journey across the West Pacific. Noru formed on July 20, then reached super typhoon status and became the strongest tropical cyclone on the planet so far this year on July 30.
... Prior to reaching the northern Ryukyu Islands, Noru will enter an area of high water temperatures and low wind shear, which will provide another opportunity for strengthening.
... The storm will likely track far enough south to prevent landfall in Kyushu this weekend, while also limiting any weakening of the cyclone.
Despite passing to the south, Noru will lash southeast Kyushu with wind and rain beginning Saturday night with impacts expanding across the rest of the island through Sunday night.
