Just watched the News.
Most coastal areas and near rivers in Okayama prefecture are evacuating folks for the night.
My village, Misakicho, is on red alert for rain and wind - and up here we had no rain for at least one hour now and just a wee bit of wind - well the silence before the storm.
Outside part of the sky in the south is dark blue with gray clouds racing, toward the west the gray clouds begin to glow yellow in an invisible sunset - eerie colors, majestic colors !!

The typhoon is getting a bit weaker and faster.
At 9 it was near Awa town, Tokushima in Shikoku.
Most of the rain is falling further away from the typhoon center, our side here in Okayama is almost quiet and just normal rain since the morning.

Typhoon Halong hits Japan - Aug. 10, 2014 - Updated 07:18
A strong typhoon has made landfall on Shikoku, one of Japan's 4 main islands, on Sunday.
The Meteorological Agency says Typhoon Halong is heading north-northeast at 20 kilometers per hour.
The agency warns that heavy rain may cause mudslides and flooding. Stormy weather is hitting wide areas of western and northern Japan.
As of 7 AM, one person has died and 26 people have been injured.
Authorities have issued evacuation orders for more than 240,000 households, and put out evacuation advisories for a further 380,000 households.
The storm has also disrupted transportation services. Airlines have canceled nearly 200 domestic flights for Sunday.

At 3 in the morning the typhoon was about 200 km west of Okushiri, Hokkaido, moving faster toward Hokkaido.

台風１１号の影響で各地で非常に激しい雨が降り、川が氾濫し避難所の中学校が水につかったり、土砂崩れで道路が寸断され、村全体が一時孤立したりした。また、ＮＮＮのまとめで、全国で増水した川に流されるなどして３人が死亡した。

Severe tropical storm heading north of Japan

Weather officials say severe tropical storm Halong is heading north-northeast over the Sea of Japan after passing over the west of the country.
NHK has learned the storm has left 2 people dead and one person missing. 78 people were injured. Evacuation orders and advisories remain in place for about 190,000 people nationwide.
The Meteorological Agency said that as of 7 PM the storm is moving north-northeast 60 kilometers off Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, off the coast of the Sea of Japan at a speed of 45 kilometers per hour.
Halong is maintaining a central atmospheric pressure of 975 hectopascals with a maximum wind speed of 108 kilometers per hour.
The Agency predicts 300 millimeters of rainfall for Hokkaido by early Monday evening and 200 millimeters for the Tokai and Tohoku regions.
It says the rainfall in Hokkaido through Monday may equal the usual monthly average for August.
Weather officials are warning of landslides and flooding rivers as well as strong winds, thunderstorms and tornadoes in many parts of the country.
