Growing Shiitake in the Back Yard
The logs before implanting. Usually wood of the shii tree is used (hence the name). Each log is about one meter long.
You buy them at the local store or hopefully get them from a farmer in the area.

The bag with the implants, you buy at the local store. There are 200 in one bag.

Storage in a dark moist place behind the house.
It takes two years for them to grow until we can harvest them.
Mushrooms from last year, showing their heads. They need a lot of moisture and then a great difference in temperature from day to night, before they start growing. Late autumn and early spring are their best times. In summer, they are resting.

Thank you for sharing the shiitake mushroom growing pics. We eat a lot of shiitake and other mushrooms. They change the "ordinary meal" into something spectacular.
